Eva “Garlene” Lorenz of Muskogee, Okla., was born to Gerald and Janetta Bacon on August 3, 1940, in Warwick, Okla. She died Thursday, May 27, 2021, at the age of 80 years. Lorenz, a 1957 graduate of Wellston High School, was a homemaker and worked as an administrative secretary.

Shirley Mae (Dees) Summers, resident of Shawnee, Okla., passed away on Monday, May 24, 2021. She was 80 years old. A funeral ceremony was held on Thursday, May 27, 2021 at the Walker Funeral Chapel in Shawnee. Following the ceremony, she was laid to rest at Resthaven Memorial Park.

COVID deaths rise in area

The number of deaths in Pottawatomie County attributed to COVID-19 has risen by three, Oklahoma State Department of Health figures show. No new deaths have occurred in Lincoln County since the last report, according to the OSDH.

Trial in starvation case

Trial for one of the family members charged in the near starvation of a Meeker youth in July of 2018 has been put on the jury trial call docket for 9:30 a.m. Friday, June 4, court records show. Both parties, the state and defense, have announced they are ready for trial, according to court records.

Two injured in turnpike crash

Two people were injured recently in a traffic collision involving four vehicles on the Turner Turnpike in Lincoln County west of Chandler, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported. State Trooper Rawls identified those injured as Erik B. Richison, 30, Tulsa and Emily A. Richison, 26, of Tulsa.

Charges dropped against one cockfighting suspect

All charges filed against a Harrah area woman in connection with an illegal cockfighting operation more than a year and half ago have been dismissed, court records show. But a trial date for the man from the Harrah area charged in connection with that operation has been set for October.

Hearing set in murder case

A judge has scheduled a preliminary hearing for a Harrah man charged in February with the murder of a 21-year-old Stroud resident. Cole Berginer Guy, 19, was formally charged Feb. 22 in Lincoln County District Court, accused of shooting and killing Gabriel Chumley with deliberate intent on Feb.
