Nine young women and men from the nine FFA chapters in Pottawatomie County were honored this week as recipients of the The Gordon Richards, Sr., Achievement Award sponsored by the Clinic Pharmacy. This is the 76th consecutive year for the banquet.

It was a lot of degrees below zero as I walked to the edge of the pond last week with an ax over my shoulder. At that moment, it may have been only two degrees below zero, but it was hard to tell the difference between that and 40 below.

Burr! Baby it was cold last week! So cold that an elbow joint in our fire suppression system in the attic froze and burst flooding the north end of the hall. But, we are a lucky and blessed bunch here at Prairie Pointe.

As I was sitting and listening the other evening at what has always been called the Richards FFA Awards Banquet, several thoughts came to mind. For 75 years Richards Drug Stores sponsored this annual event. This banquet honors the top FFA student from each chapter throughout Pottawatomie County.

15th Street construction

Officials with the City of Chandler want to advise property owners that construction is scheduled to begin within the next 48 hours on 15th Street between Steele Avenue and Summer Lane. The project will include grade, drain and asphalt surfacing on 15th Street (EW 9l) from State Hwy. 66 0.

The Dale Board of Education Tuesday declared an emergency related to expenditures incurred by the winter storm of 2021. Members also approved hiring of contractors as needed for repairs and restorations of facilities.

Recent winter weather has given the words “below zero” a much more immediate meaning. Meanwhile, many across Lincoln County have little protection from the cold.
