DEAR - elementary reading for fun

While reading is a fundamental skill that is taught at schools, some elementary schools in the area are hoping to encourage students to enjoy reading for fun.James Wells, principal at Parkview Elementary School in Stroud, said the school starts every morning with Drop Every And Read (DEAR).

Weeks honored with FFA national awards

Blake Weeks, a dedicated member of Meeker FFA, has achieved one of the highest honors in the organization by being named an American FFA Degree recipient.He will be recognized for his achievement during the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis this October.

The Lady Lions are shooting for their second straight trip to the state tournament, and started the season like they’ll make it.Through games of Sep. 27, they were 9-1 and have rung up seven shutouts.

The Bulldogs finished last year with wins in two of the final three games and hope to use that as a springboard to the playoffs in 2025.This year, the Dogs play their first four games at home and have six home games.Second-year head coach Allen Potts will field a youthful team with just six seniors.

The Lady Bulldogs had put together a streak of 5 wins in 7 games before losing a couple of games in the 66 Conference Tournament last weekend.They have one of the youngest teams around, with nine freshmen and sophomores on their 14-player roster.
