COVID deaths spike in Lincoln, Pott counties

The number of deaths attributed to COVID-19 has climbed significantly in Lincoln and Pottawatomie Counties over the past week, the Oklahoma State Department of Health reports.

In Lincoln County, six additional deaths have been reported. In Pottawatomie County, at least nine more have died due to the virus, the OSDH said.

In Lincoln County, they include two males 65 or older, two females 65 or older, one male in the 50-64 age group and one person OSDH did not provide information on.

Lincoln County now has 54 reported deaths attributed to COVID-19.

The 54 deaths compare to 48 a week ago, the OSDH reports.

In Pottawatomie County, the nine more deaths include five males 65 or older, one female 65 or older and one male in the 50-64 age group, the OSDH said.

The 69 deaths compare to 60 a week ago, the OSDH reports.

Over the past week, the number of positive cases has risen in both Pottawatomie and Lincoln counties, but the increase is slowing some, OSDH figures show.

The number of new positive tests in Pottawatomie County jumped by 191 in the last week and in Lincoln County they increased by 58, according to figures provided by the OSDH.

Between the two counties, the number of positive tests has jumped by 249 in the last seven days. The previous week that number was 33.

Lincoln County’s number this week is 2,987. A week ago it was 2,929. Two weeks ago it was 2,842 the OSDH said.

The number of people testing positive for the virus in Pottawatomie County this week stands at 7,653. Last week it was 7,462. The county’s total two weeks ago was 7,218.

The total number testing positive in the two counties now stands at 10,640.

Total number of people who have recovered in the two counties is now 10,024 the OSDH said. In Pottawatomie County, 7,216 have recovered and 2,808 have recovered in Lincoln County.

Statewide as of Tuesday, 414,780 people have tested positive, there have been 4,061 deaths and 391,156 who have recovered. Active cases stand at 19,563, the OSDH reports.

Last week there were 406,064 testing positive, there had been 3,870 deaths and 377,678 had recovered. There were 24,516 active cases a week ago.

This week on Tuesday, the OSDH reported 508 new positive cases confirmed and 20 additional deaths.

The OSDH reports more than 2.9 million people have tested negative.
