Woman charged with trying to bribe officers

A woman faces charges of offering bribes to two Chandler police officers along with five other counts following her arrest recently.

Three felony charges and four misdemeanors were formally filed May 14 in Lincoln County District Court against Stephanie Rynn Patterson, also known as Stephanie Rynn Jones, 40.

There is no address listed for Patterson.

Associate District Judge Sheila Kirk on May 13 set a $5,000 bond for Patterson and set her initial appearance for May 17. On May 17, the judge scheduled a prepreliminary hearing for Patterson at 1:30 p.m. on June 3.

One of the felony counts of offering a bribe to an Executive Officer accuses Patterson of repeatedly offering to engage in carnal acts with Chandler Police Lt. Dax Phipps in exchange for lenient treatment while knowing he was a law enforcement officer.

According to the charge, this occurred on May 12 this year near the Walmart Store in Chandler while she was being detained on a report of shoplifting.

Another felony count of offering a bribe to an Executive Officer alleges Patterson, while being detained on a report of shoplifting, repeatedly offered to engage in carnal acts with Chandler Assistant Police Chief James Wells in exchange for lenient treatment while knowing he was a law enforcement officer.

That also reportedly occurred at the same place on the same date of the other offering a bribe incident.

A third felony charge accuses Patterson with false personation of another to create liability. In that count, she is accused of while being detained on a report of shoplifting she gave the name of Laura Ann Ronck, born in January of 1983, in response to a police officer’s question as to her name.

The information states she later admitted to her actual identity and stated the name she gave is that of her sister.

Patterson is also charged with larceny of merchandise from a retailer, a misdemeanor. She allegedly took various merchandise items, mostly clothing, secreted them on herself and left the store without having paid for the items with the intent to deprive the store permanently.

The total amount was less than $1,000, the charge reads.

She is also charged with resisting lawful arrest as she attempted to flee by running away after being confronted by police officers, even after being chased and captured. The charge states she continued repeatedly to try and pull and twist away from the officer’s grasp, further refusing to provide her arms when the officer attempted to handcuff her.

A count of unlawful possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance accuses her of possessing plastic baggies containing a small amount of a crystalline substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine.

Patterson is also charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Officers reported finding at least eight syringes, some having been used, some unused, and at least one filled with a dark red liquid, and baggies containing a substance that field tested positive as methamphetamine.

Prosecutors filed supplemental information showing that Patterson pleaded guilty on April 7, 2020, in Tulsa County District Court to falsely personate another to create liability and was given a two-year suspended sentence in the Department of Corrections.
