Updates from Meeker’s Town Hall

1. Update on Asphalt Overlay on Highway 18

A. I talked to Jeff, Supervisor, at Lincoln County’s ODOT this morning and he told me they were to start laying asphalt this week. This will start at Hwy. 62 and go to Hwy. 66. He said the plan is to do one side at a time. No expected finish date.

2. Update on Annexation

A. Meeker’s Attorney did not get the letters mailed out in time for the June 28th Public Hearing for the annexation.

B. He has assured us the letters will be mailed out this time between July 12th and 16th. The hearing will be held at City Hall, July 26th at 6 PM.

C. Please remember these borders are to protect our water rights. We need to put these in place to stop Shawnee from annexing land around our lake and taking our water rights. Both Shawnee from the South an CPN Dist. No. 3 from the North have already tried to annex these properties. Our Attorney, Jim Hodgens, Mr. Dorn Weaver and I were the only ones to show up at the County Commissioner’s meeting to stop their annexation process for our District.

D. If you live inside these borders, you will be Grandfathered in for all your rights that you have now.

E. The Town is obligated to provide you with Fire and Police protection. They have 10 years to run sewer and water and if that is not accomplished, they may file for a 10 year extension. Please see map for Annexation orders.

3. Update on Lake Project “Quapaw 15”

A. I sent Valerie Glasgow, NRCS, USDA, Design Engineer, an email for an update.

B. Valerie Glasgow’s response was that “The A&E firm is proceeding with the design. They have some concerns with some of the soils and we are trying to decide how best to proceed. We may need to do some additional testing. We have had some delays, and the A&E firm is working on a new timeline. I’m expecting to get the 60 percent design submittal in a couple months depending on how this soil situation goes. This would be about a 2-month delay from the original timeline”.

4. Update on Chamber of Commerce

A. President, Josh Sims, discussed rescheduling the Independence Day Celebration. The idea was for a Back-to-School Bash, with dates being discussed for August 21st or 28th. He was going to check with everyone to see which date would work best. He will let us know what date is chosen.
