Can you believe March is already here? I was driving down Main Street Tuesday morning and noticed the few straggling dead flowers in our downtown flowerpots. Town Talk is anxious to get those filled with gorgeous spring flowers which helps Stroud look alive.
Work continues on the miniature golf course. David Evans and his crew of one keep chipping away at the club house. Town Talk volunteers will be working on the course itself this Friday. We will meet next week to begin work on the different signage needed for the course. We are planning our Grand Opening for alumni weekend so we will be working fervently to complete this project.
I, along with Town Talk, would like to thank everyone who has donated to the Bugle Boy Project in memory of my brother, Gary Smalley. He would have celebrated his 61st birthday this coming Monday so those donations make a great birthday gift to him as well.
Stroud activities for the coming week include Band Boosters and American Legion Auxiliary meetings at 6:00 p.m. and American Legion meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, March 7th. The Chamber of Commerce will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8th and the City Council’s monthly meeting will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 10th.
Town Talk projects that are in various stages of completion are the miniature golf course, Bugle Boy and lights outlining our Main Street businesses. If you have ideas for new projects or things you’d like to see happen in Stroud, Town Talk welcomes your ideas. Feel free to call me or send me a text at 918-527-9833.
I hated to see the words “For Sale” on the marquee outside of Mazzio’s. It seems like when we gain a business, we lose a business. Stroud is lucky to have as many small businesses as we do. Other small Oklahoma towns haven’t been as fortunate. I noticed Elbert Wells posted on Facebook the other day that he and Sharla had both had the cold bug. He wrote he was grateful for our local pharmacy where not only could they get the medications they needed but had a pharmacist available to help understand which ones to choose. Let’s help keep our businesses open by shopping local first. Have a great week!
