Town Talk

The mini-golf course is moving along.

You might not be seeing many changes, but they are happening behind the scenes, and you will see them soon.

We are making some additional obstacles for each hole which will be representative of that State’s hole. Hole One will be our train station where you hop on board Stroud’s Lincoln County Express to take a train ride on Route 66. Hole Two is Illinois, Hole Three is Missouri, Hole Four is Kansas, Hole Five is Texas, Hole Six is New Mexico, Hole Eight is Arizona and Hole Nine is the Santa Monica Pier in California.

We think it’s going to be a fun course to play and provide a little education about the eight states which contain a part of the Mother Road.

The United States has 50 states and Route 66 only runs through eight of them. Stroud is fortunate to have this piece of Americana right here in our hometown.

Thank you to Brian Vickery representing Better Value Handyman, Mary Vickery of First Trust and Bank and Heather Black of Welcome Home for representing their companies and volunteering to paint the clubhouse this past week.

David Evans was on hand, as always, and worked on some finishing touches to the building even though there is more to do. David designed our clubhouse and built it from the ground up, so we are especially thankful for all his volunteer hours. Opening date is set for Saturday, May 28th.

The placing of the flags at the cemetery for Memorial Day is scheduled for May 26th at 9:00 a.m. The public is invited to help with this project. It is a great learning activity for parents to participate in with their children.

Hope to see you there. Town Talk, American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary will once again honor our deceased veterans with a Memorial Day program on Monday, May 31st. I will publish the program soon but wanted you to put it on your calendars now.

The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. at the Stroud Cemetery, weather permitting. The ceremony will move to the American Legion building if there is inclement weather.

Calling all garage sale enthusiasts. Stroud’s city-wide garage sale will take place this year on May 6th and 7th. We are participating in the 100- mile garage sale so business should be especially good this year. Be sure and get on the list if you plan on being a part of this event.

The Stroud Community Clothing Ministry is open Thursday, April 28th from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. They are also taking donations.

A big shout-out to Melissa Goodman for putting together the local community calendar to keep us posted on activities happening in Stroud.

You will find it each month on Facebook under Stroud Happenings & Functions. Thank you, Melissa. Another shout-out goes to Lincoln County Health Department and employees David Smith and Sheri Ripley with the Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust for organizing and hosting the Health Fair held recently in Stroud’s Route 66 Pavilion.

There was a good turnout for the event and each visitor received valuable health information from the many businesses and organizations who set up booths.

May is just around the corner and with it comes Mother’s Day, graduations, and Memorial Day.

We have all kinds of reasons to visit our local merchants during the month of May.

Don’t delay. Stop in and get your gifts early. Thank you for choosing to shop local first.
