Town Talk

Stroud’s kiddos returned to school this week. Be sure to slow down and watch for children walking to and from school.

My great-nephew Gideon will be attending Stroud Middle School this year. I started spending my days again in Stroud ten years ago when Gideon was two and I was his babysitter.

Where did the time go? I started Town Talk about eight years ago and even though the time has flown by, I’m proud of all the things we’ve accomplished for Stroud. When I first came back, I worked for the City. Clara Hodgens and I worked together on several projects.

My husband Larry gave my phone a specific ringtone for when Clara called. I remember every time the phone would ring “Clara’s ring” Gideon would say, “It’s Clara. Don’t answer it!”

He knew Clara and I would be on the phone awhile and he wanted my undivided attention.

Town Talk sends condolences to J.R. Owens and his family.

J.R.’s mom, Glenda, passed away this past week. Glenda and her late husband, Junior Owens, had been residents of Stroud for as long as I can remember.

They lived down the street from us on Eighth Street when I was growing up. Junior and Glenda raised two kids who graduated from Stroud, the late Deanna Wright and J.R.

Glenda worked for what was once Stroud National Bank and Junior had the barbershop on Main Street. As Glenda’s health began to fail, she moved closer to her son in Eufaula from Stroud’s Prairie Pointe.

Putt Putt Kicks on Route 66 will be open this Thursday through Sunday from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm.

Watch Facebook for nightly specials. Thursday’s special will be a free round of golf with the purchase of a Johnny Freeze. Stay cool while you putt your way from the Stroud Train Station to Santa Monica Pier in California. Come get some kicks on Route 66.

A group of 13 young people from Deer Creek Baptist Church accompanied by their sponsors, Katlyn Hughey and April Hanes played a round of golf at the miniature golf course on Saturday morning.

The young people were treated to the outing for memorizing Bible verses and being faithful to their Wednesday night youth group. Town Talk opens the course for birthday parties, family gatherings or any other special occasions at times other than regular hours. Give us a call at 918-527-9833 if you’d like to schedule a party or an event.

Activities in Stroud this week are City Council meeting at City Hall at 6 p.m. on Thursday, August 11th. Friday night, August 12th, is the Blue/ White Pep Rally. It will start at 7:00 p.m. and be held at Jack Poskey Field. Saturday, August 13th, is the monthly Masonic Lodge Breakfast at the Ag Building. It runs from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. and is $7 for an “all you can eat” breakfast. It is a quiet week but now that school has started things will pick up with lots of school activities.

If you need a Stroud Tiger Shirt to wear to the Pep Rally this Friday night, check in with some of our local merchants to purchase one. I’m not going to mention all the businesses carrying Tiger shirts because I don’t want to leave anyone out, but I know several places in town sell them. Just another great chance for you to shop local………………..first. Have a great week!
