This year’s Trick or Treat night is coming up fairly quickly.
The official Trick or Treat night is Oct. 31, which is a Monday evening this year. Last year around our place, we could see that people again were becoming more comfortable with these kinds of activities. In 2020, not so much.
I was glad to see that. This year, my wife Pat and I aren’t sure what to expect.
Ann with the Chandler Chamber of Commerce says downtown trick or treating will be from 5-6 and then the kids can head to the residences.
Meeker is having theirs on Monday, the 31st, from 6-8 p.m. The town’s Trustees voted on that in August to make sure everyone knew.
In the Shawnee area, Trick or Treat will be from 5:30-8:30 p.m. on Monday the 31st.
Last year, the kids weren’t flocking to our front door by any means. They were though, at least out and about.
But in 2020 we literally had maybe a handful at the most.
I’ve already purchased our candy, just so we wouldn’t have to worry about it, and before it got picked over.
I bought too much candy last year, but wanted to make sure we had plenty.
In 2020, Trick or Treat night and related activities were basically non-existent in most areas around here.
Also, if you will think back, many areas throughout Oklahoma, including Lincoln and Pottawatomie Counties had just experienced an unusual, powerful ice storm in late October.
Thousands of people were still recovering and picking up from it and many people in some areas in the state were still without power.
The storm hit on Monday and Tuesday of that week. I honestly don’t ever remember having an ice storm before Halloween when I was growing up.
There were no worries about the weather last year. It was picture perfect and couldn’t have been much better for this time of year. We’ll see what this year brings.
Pat and I have talked about how much we enjoyed going trick or treating as kids when we were growing up. When I was a kid, even as I neared being a teenager, the kids I ran around with at that time, we all looked forward to Trick or Treat night. Despite even the coldest October night, or even if it was drizzling or just slightly raining, we bundled up and had a good time.
The bunch I grew up with looked forward to getting the candy and goodies. Even those handing out the candy and goodies, like my parents, enjoyed it as well.
We didn’t have daylight savings time in those days. So, we began right at dark and normally we were finished by 8 or so. We just had a good time.
I remember one time I dressed up as an injured football player, another time as a young hunter I think. It was all about having a good time with our friends.
We hope the kids in our area have a good time again this year.
