Town Talk

Town Talk will host our second “Olive Garden” lasagna dinner this Sunday, March 12th beginning at noon at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center. Your ticket needs to be purchased by Friday, March 10th so we are sure we order enough food. A $20 donation will guarantee you a place at our table on Sunday. All children fifth grade and under will receive a free spaghetti lunch. Back by popular demand will be Susan Cockrum’s amazing peach cobbler. Don’t miss out – get your ticket today. All proceeds will go towards our Bugle Boy Project.

Thanks to everyone who purchased Eileen’s Cookie Dough. The order has been placed and the cookie dough will arrive next week. I’m just hoping my cookie dough makes it to the oven before it’s all gone. The only thing better than a hot cookie is a spoonful of cookie dough.

The Middle School Tigers baseball team played Kellyville last Friday night here in Stroud. The weather was a little rough but sitting in the bleachers at Stroud’s new baseball complex made the rain almost bearable. Due to lightning the game was called after the 4th inning with Kellyville taking home the win.

Congratulations are in order though for the Tigers for securing a 4-3 win over the Davenport Bulldogs on Friday night. The Bulldogs are coached by Brett Case. Brett is the son of Stroud native and alum Mike Case and his wife Vicki, both former Stroud teachers. Gideon Smalley pitched the game for the Tigers. Stroud also defeated the Ripley Warriors in Ripley on Monday night. Pitching that game were Sam McCammon and Stryker Bray.

A definition of shopping local is the act of everyday consumers, like us, making the decision to buy our groceries, gasoline and day to day items from a local business instead of going to a large retailer. Some reasons to shop with local merchants is to reduce your carbon footprint, to support our local community and to create local jobs. Your shopping experience is also more personal, you get one-on-one customer service and it helps create the identity of our community. Those all sound like good reasons to check-out our Stroud merchants before heading out of town. Have a great week and thank you for continuing to shopping locally………….. first!
