Have you seen the new sign over what was once Main Street Family Clinic? It now says Utica Park Clinic. Congratulations to Bronwyn Howard, Peggy Gardner and all their staff on this new merger. Change is often hard, especially for the patients, as I am sure there are new policies and procedures that come with this merger but I think it brings positive changes for everyone. I was talking to Nurse Practitioner Peggy Gardner and she said the merger will allow them to add more staff and that is definitely a win for our community. Thank you, clinic staff, for all you do to ensure the health of our community.
Dr. Francis and his staff have their new Dental Design’s office open and running. I’ve been told that there is a room with video games for the children to play on while they wait for their appointments. Dentist’s offices have come a long way since I was a kid. Sounds like today going to the dentist office might be a fun outing. I’m sure long-time Stroud dentist, the late Jack Melson, would be pleased but also surprised at the way dentistry has evolved over these many years.
The former home of Paul Wilson and then Randy Curry, now home to the Tommy Peter’s family, is getting a facelift. The home is located on North 4th Avenue. It looks amazing. It’s nice to see improvements going on in our neighborhoods. They have added a front porch roof and new siding. Drive by when you’re out and if you see them, give them a big Stroud thumbs=up!
We are down to the wire on our fund raising efforts for our Bugle Boy Project. Thank you to everyone who sent donations this week; long-time Stroud residents John and Linda Killingsworth (now living in Chandler), Stroud graduate and my cousin Sammy Mayfield and his wife Marie whose father was a WWII veteran, David Brixey and Angie Lewis and Representative Kevin Wallace. This project would not be possible without each of you. Thank you so much and the love you’ve shown your hometown.
Veteran’s banners are still available to purchase for downtown. Cost is $125 for one side of the banner. All you need is a picture of the person you want to honor (it does not have to be of them in uniform), their rank, branch of service and name of conflict if they served during war time. You may e-mail the information to be at towntalk74@gmail.com or call me at 918-527-9833.
There was a lot going on this weekend in Stroud. There was a high school track meet and an 8U baseball tournament in Foster Park. It was great to see all the activity in the park and hopefully our local businesses reaped some of the benefits of the large crowd. A Home-Run Derby fund raiser was held between games on the Little League Field. Bragging rights go to the winner, Beau Hubbard, for hitting six over the fence. Senator Smalley demonstrated his batting skills hitting four over the fence to beat out his son Gideon who had three. In Gideon’s defense, one of his hit a massive light pole on the fence line which bounced back in the infield or he would have shared a tie with his dad. August and Lincoln’s team played four games over the weekend and August made two homeruns while Lincoln hit a triple. August did a little celebration dance after one of his home runs by doing the “griddy.” That boy is a mess. LOL Town Talk sends a special speedy recovery message to our dear friend and supporter Ann Rogers. Ann recently fell and cracked her pelvis. She will be at Stroud Health Care Center for a couple of weeks while she recovers. We hope she mends quickly because we love her and because we have a trivia tournament coming up in April and Ann never misses trivia.
Mark your calendars for June 3rd. Will Rogers is coming to town or at least his impersonator will be here. Town Talk will host a fund raiser which will consist of a performance by Rogers as well as a chuck wagon dinner. I will post more details as they become available but it’s going to be a show you don’t want to miss.
We’ve had lots of rain but from looking at the weather I think we have some sunny days ahead of us. It might just be a good time to start planting those spring flowers. I know there are several places in town to purchase all the items you need to gussy up your flower beds. Don’t forget Easter will be here before you know it so check out our local merchants for all your Easter needs. Have a great week and thank you for choosing to shop local………….first!
