Pictured are Knox Wright and Bennett Woodruff, two of our 1KB4K achievers! They are preschool students enrolled in the One Thousand Books Before Kindergarten program, available through the Chandler Public Library. CPL joined the program in February of this year, and these young men have already achieved several of the markers. The goal of the program is to encourage reading by having parents, grandparents, siblings, friends, and other readers share their joy of reading by reading to the preschoolers.
Reading journals are available at the library, and there are incentive goals for every hundred books read. If you know a preschooler, consider signing them up for the program!
If you are a reader looking for something new, we have several new books in at CPL, including several new authors. Most of this month’s new books are adult fiction.
Tried and true authors, include: Burner, by Mark Greaney; Hang the Moon, by Jeanette Walls; I Will Find You, by Harlan Coben; Loyalty, by Lisa Scottoline; On the Line, Fern Michaels; Sister Effect, by Susan Mallery; White Lady, by Jacqueline Winspear (creator of the Maisy Dobbs series); Worthy Opponents, by Danielle Steel; and one of our non-fiction books, James Patterson by James Patterson, the author’s “… book of true stories the way I remember them.”
Several new authors and new-to-us authors are making their debuts on the CPL shelves. First, the debut authors: Julia Bartz, a practicing therapist, debuts with a psychological thriller, The Writing Retreat; and the poignant coming-ofage story, Maame, by Jessica George, who, like her protagonist, was born and raised in London to Ghanaian parents.
The new-to-us authors include: All That is Mine I Carry With Me, by William Landray; Birnam Wood, by Eleanor Catton; Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone, by Benjamin Stevenson (whose other job is a standup comedian); The Flaw in the Design, by Nathan Oates; The Midnight Library, by Matt Haig; A Most Intriguing Lady, by Sarah Ferguson (yes, that Sarah Ferguson); and The Soulmate, by Sally Hepworth.
There are also several new non-fiction books on our shelves, including: All My Knotted-Up Life, by Beth Moore; Change Your Brain Every Day, life-changing practices by Daniel G.
