Meeker’s Board of Education this week approved the 2023-2024 Temporary Appropriations, hired several new personnel and approved a retirement and a resignation.
Board members also approved continuing contracts for certified staff, support staff and extra duty contracts for the 2023-2024 school year.
It was announced that the high school graduation this Friday night will be at 7:30 p.m. at the Camp Cargill Chapel.
It had been scheduled for OBU’s Raley Chapel but had to be moved due to damage from the April 19 tornado that struck Shawnee.
School Supt. Jeff Pruitt said the Temporary Appropriations include $9,359,649 in the General Fund, $158,217 in the Building Fund and $415,966 in the Child Nutrition Fund.
“This is what we get the school year started off with,” he informed the board.
It was also announced during the meeting that Pruitt has been selected as the 2023 Oklahoma Association of School Administrators District No. 8 Superintendent of the Year. He will be recognized during the Cooperative Council for Oklahoma School Administration’s Summer Leadership Conference on June 14-16.
New personnel approved for the 20232024 school year include Susan Roach, elementary teacher, Lindsay Potts, Virtual Education Director, Sarah Stewart, elementary teacher, Tony Thoma, band director and Alana Owens, Middle School teacher.
Board members approved the retirement of Virginia Pritchard, Virtual/ Alternative Education Director and the resignation of Sandra Turner, high school paraprofessional.
In their reports, High School Principal Brad Buxton reported enrollment at 210 students and he noted the activities are winding down.
Middle School Principal Rodney Treat reported enrollment at 172, telling the board, “that is up about 18-19 from where we started.”
John Bolander, who along with Buxton has shared the elementary principal responsibilities this semester, reported enrollment of 322 students.
