Two people died and two others were injured in a one-vehicle collision west of Chandler in Lincoln County, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol has reported.
Highway Patrol Trooper Hunn identified one of those who died as Jeremiah Sargent, 34, address unknown, driver of the vehicle involved in the fatal collision. He was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash, the trooper stated.
The other person who died was a 15-year-old, name withheld, from Cushing who also was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the collision, Hunn said.
One of the injured, identified as Zachary Collins 27, of Cushing, a passenger, was transported by MediFlight to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City where he was admitted in fair condition with head injuries, the trooper stated.
The other person injured was also a 15-year-old, name withheld, also from Cushing. Hunn said he was transported by Chandler EMS to OU Children’s Hospital where he was admitted in poor condition with limb and trunk internal injuries.
Hunn reported the collision occurred about 5:15 p.m. on Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend on S. 3410 Road just east of East 890 Road, one mile west of Chandler.
The trooper said a 2001 Black Chevy Tahoe driven by Sargent was traveling westbound on 890 Road at a high rate of speed and failed to negotiate a curve, losing control and departing the roadway to the right, rolling 3½ times, landing on its top. Hunn said Sargent was ejected about 22 feet and the 15-year-old passenger who died, was ejected approximately six feet.
Hunn reported the driver of the vehicle was intoxicated, he listed the cause of the collision as speeds greater than reasonable and proper and that none of the four was wearing the equipped seat belts.
Hunn, of Troop A, was assisted by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, the Chandler Police Department, Mediflight, Survival Flight and Chandler EMS.
