Our community enjoyed another terrific fireworks show and July 4th celebration in Foster Park last week. Thanks to all who made this possible.
I read many comments that stated Stroud’s fireworks were one of the best around. We can add that to our list of reasons we are Stroud Proud.
Route 66 Spirit of America Museum is open and in full swing. I received reports that Clark Kent was on hand at the museum to help celebrate the 4th of July. I even heard Batman made an appearance with some thinking it might have been Stroud’s very own Jeremy Smart. You never know who you might run into at Steve Brant’s mueum. I hope you read the article in the Tulsa World about Stroud’s newest attraction. It was a nice, large article and was a great advertisement for our community.
I’m headed to Southaven, Mississippi this week to watch Gideon play in another baseball tournament with a team out of Atlanta, Georgia. I reported to you a couple of weeks ago about Gideon being invited to play with that same team in Georgia.
After that tournament Gideon was named to the All-Tournament Team in both hitting and pitching. He was the only team member to make both teams. Congratulations, Gideon! While in Southaven I’ll keep my eyes open to new ideas for our community.
If you check out the veteran’s banners on Main Street, you will notice the new banner in front of Utica Park Clinic.
It is of former Stroud High School teacher Willard Collier and Main Street department store owner Gerald Hendricks. Next week we will add another new banner honoring Ivan Quandel and George Hesket, both former Stroud American Legion Commanders.
It’s not too late to purchase your banner in honor of your serviceman/woman. The cost for one side of the banner is $125.
Town Talk continues to sell bricks for the Veteran’s Memorial in Ed. Smalley Centennial Park on Main Street. We have currently sold thirty-one bricks and they are coming to do the inscriptions the week of July 24th. If you want to be included in this first etching of bricks, don’t delay and purchase your brick today. Just call me at 918-527-9833.
Paul Mercer and his wife Lou Anne just moved back to Stroud. I guess it’s true that “all roads lead to home.” Paul graduated from Stroud High School, returned years later, ran a local business, his wife taught school and then they were off again for another adventure.
They have decided to return and once again make Stroud their home. Town Talk is happy to have them back. They have been supporters of our projects and Stroud volunteers even while living in Northwest Oklahoma CIty. Just another nice couple I have gotten to know while volunteering in Stroud. Welcome home to the Mercers.
Activities for the week include City Council meeting Thursday July 13th at 7:00 p.m. at City Hall and Deer Creek Baptist Church is holding their Bible School this week.
Mark your calendars now for Stroud’s Guns and Hoses which will take place on Saturday, July 22nd at 6:00 p.m. at the old high school baseball field.
Unique Market has a new digital sign in front of their business.
You can check out all the store specials and upcoming products and events on the new sign. Be sure and drive by when you are out shopping locally.

It’s hard to believe but school is just around the corner. I notice stores are already stocking their shelves with school supplies. When looking for items to fill your kiddos backpack, make sure you check out all Stroud has to offer. Have a great week and thank you for continuing to shop local……………first!
