Sentences in child neglect

A woman from the Dale area who pleaded guilty in May to two charges of felony child neglect has been handed two prison sentences to run concurrently with one another.

On May 16 this year, appearing before District Judge Traci Soderstrom, Beal entered guilty blind pleas and the judge ordered a presentence investigation.

On July 18, Judge Soderstrom on Count 1 sentenced Beal to 30 years in the custody of the Department of Corrections with all but the first 10 years suspended.

On Count 2, she also sentenced Beal to 30 years in DOC custody with all but the first 10 years suspended.

Judge Soderstrom ordered, “Defendant to not receive credit for time served.”

The judge further ordered that upon Beal’s release from prison she is to complete a mental health assessment within six months, she is to report to the court within six months to set up a Rule 8 hearing and she was placed on supervised probation with DOC for three years.

Beal is to have random drug testing and she is to perform 200 hours of Community Service within one year of her release.

In the charges filed, Beal was accused on July 2, 2020, at 333204 Kay Drive in Lincoln County of failing to provide to her daughter born in January of 2007 adequate nurturance, food, clothing, shelter, sanitation, hygiene, appropriate education, supervision, appropriate caretakers and failing or omitting to protect the child from the following: the use, possession and sale of illegal drugs, illegal drug activities and sexual acts not appropriate for the child; making the child and her sister live in a tent without water or electricity; by failing to provide adequate food; allowing a registered sex offender to live nearby and have access to the child; using and selling illegal drugs in the presence of the child.

The second charge is the same regarding a daughter born in May of 2009.
