We have another new business on Main Street. Dell and Jenni Sparger recently purchased the RV Park and Pawn Shop on Route 66 just west of Stroud. After the purchase they decided to move the Pawn Shop to downtown Stroud. It is in the building that was formerly the Sisters Consignment Store. It is now called Jenni’s Pawn & Merc & Loan Company. The business is open Tuesday through Friday 10:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m., Saturday 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. and closed on Sunday and Monday. Mary Terry helped the Spargers get the store open and she says they have lots of different types of merchandise to sell. Mary thought a collector’s set of metal vintage cars, priced individually, was interesting and unique. Stop by, say hi and welcome them to Stroud.
Many improvements have been made and continue to be made to our hospital. Stroud is fortunate to have a local hospital and especially one of its caliber. There has been over three million dollars spent on the facility in the past two years. After extensive remodeling, the operating room will reopen on November 1st. Initially their procedures will include cataracts and pain management. In July alone our emergency room had 366 visits. Our staff to in-patient ratio is four patients to every one nurse. The top three reasons patients are admitted to the hospital are for respiratory rehabilitation, wound care (both in and out-patient) and dialysis (in-patient only). The hospital employs over 150 people and have current job openings for RN’s, LPN’s and cooks. The front office and waiting areas have been transformed into physical therapy and the entire facility has gotten a facelift. The Lions Club recently held its monthly meeting there and toured the facility. If you have a group who is interested in taking a tour of the hospital to see all the changes that have been made contact Clara Hodges at 918-853-2516 and she will be happy to schedule one.
The Stroud Tiger Middle School football teams traveled to North Rock Creek this past Monday to take on the Cougars. Our 6th and 7th grade team lost to NRC in their first game of the season. The boys played hard and showed lots of grit to kick off the season, but the Cougars took home the win. Our 7th and 8th graders put up a fight and defeated the Cougars by a score of 16 to 12. The teams will travel to Chandler next Tuesday to take on the Chandler Lions with a start time of 5:00 p.m. The Stroud High School Tigers football team will host Chandler here at home at Jack Poskey Field this Friday, September 1st with a kick-off time of 7:00 p.m.
My mother’s cousin, Jonetta McDaniel House, died this week unexpectedly even though she had been experiencing various health issues over the past year. Jonet ta attended Stroud schools during her elementary years before moving to Chickasha with her parents. Jonetta and her husband Phil lived in Tulsa for most of their adult lives. She was the daughter of the late Robert and Eunice (Baker) McDaniel, both of whom grew up in Stroud and returned here in later years after their retirement.

Town Talk had a great time playing trivia last week. We had three teams competing. Team #1 consisted of Julie and Steve Bivin and Steve and Jeanette Massey, Team #2 members were Marsha Morgan, Joe Gooch, Jo Braden and Diana Smalley Reed, Team #3 members were David and Angie Brixey, David Evans and Dani Skelton. It was a close match, but Team #2 took home the trophy. Our librarian, Marsha Morgan, was on a roll and Joe Gooch was on-point in the sports category. Jo and I did our best to fill in the gaps.
My great-nephew, Lincoln Noel Smalley, celebrated his seventh birthday this week. He requested Nerf guns for his gift. I like to get him what he asks for, but this was a tough decision for me. After any of the boys receive Nerf guns, the minute I walk through their front door I am an easy target for a Nerf bullet attack. I don’t care what they say, those “soft” bullets do not tickle. My decision was made for me. His greatgrandmother bought him the Nerf gun. They take it easy on her.
