Pete’s Place is now official.
If you’re traveling east on Main in the two hundred block, look to your left. That is the location of our Main Street Pocket Park.
There is a sign next to the park on the building that once was home to Parker’s Flower Shop stating, “Pete’s Place A Pocket Park A Place to Rest.”
At the park is the beautiful mural painted by John Owens and Vivian Henshaw, painted games on the concrete by Jessica Martinez and Elizabeth Lau and a banner donated by Town Talk. Town Talk is currently working on tiles with children’s handprints on them to be placed on the cinderblock wall.
There are two benches in the park for visitor and locals alike to sit a spell. Thank you to Pete and Kathy Sawatzky for allowing us to use the space in this way. It’s a nice addition to our Main Street The building on 4th Street that was a bowling alley when I was a child is undergoing renovations. It looks like the building is getting a new pitch roof.
I’m not sure who bought the building or what it’s going to be, but I am anxious to find out.
It was previously a t-shirt manufacturing company, if I’m not mistaken. I visited with someone who said they tried to buy it, but it had already been sold.
It’s interesting how a building can sit vacant for so long and then one day have two buyers. Renovations are also taking place at the building on Main where Welcome Home recently was located but years ago was a hotel.
Ken and Celeste Carpenter recently purchased the building from Arthur and Betty Thompson.
Celeste has exciting plans for the building. I’m sure she will share that information with us soon.

My heart was saddened to hear about the death of Ronald (Ronnie) Jones. To me, Ronnie was known as one of the Jones’ kids.
He was raised in Stroud along with his siblings, David, Cindy, Jimmy, twin brother Donald, Joe and Nancy. Stroud loved the Jones family which of course included the parents Dr. William and Willoris Jones who lived in the home which in recent years belonged to Velma Green.
My family lived on 8th Street, but it was just across the alley from the Jones. My brother Gary spent many hours playing with Ronnie and Donnie. Ronnie’s service will be held this Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church here in Stroud.
The funeral is under the direction of Parks Brothers Funeral Service so if you have additional questions, feel free to call them. Town Talk sends its condolences to the entire Jones family. They are truly a part of Stroud’s past, present and future.
The Stroud High School Tigers football team lost their season opener to the Chandler Lions this -past Friday night. As usual, there was a big crowd to watch this long-time rival match.
The Tigers will travel to Colcord this Friday night to take on the Hornets with kick-off scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Both the Chandler and Colcord games are non-conference games.
A great big birthday shout-out to my oldest great-nephew Gideon Smalley. He turns 13 years of age today, Thursday September 7th. Even though he’s at the age where he doesn’t like me to fawn over him, I have to say he is a special young man.
I was lucky enough to share babysitting responsibilities with his Great-Grandmother Aleta Smalley until he started Pre-K. How precious those years were, and we enjoy watching him grow through each stage of his life. It’s true what they say, time does fly. Happy Birthday to Gideon!
Now that school is back in session, many families’ free time is limited.
That makes it all that more important to use your time wisely and avoid spending your extra time on the road, if possible. Check out what our local businesses have before heading out of town. Let’s continue to shop and dine local………….. first!
