I saw on Facebook that after having a fun-filled weekend the Hendricks sisters made a road trip to Stroud to see the banners they had purchased for their beloved veterans.
Debbie Hendrick Epling, Marsha Hendrick Collier, and Jerry Lou Hendrick Hodges bought their dad Gerald Hendrick a veteran’s banner and Marsha bought her father-in-law Willard Collier one, also. The fourth and oldest sister, Sondra Hendrick Alley, passed away in 2019. All four sisters graduated from Stroud High School and all but Debbie married Stroud guys.
They posted that these two men loved God, their family and their country. This family is certainly a part of Stroud’s history.
The American Legion Auxiliary is planning a community event to honor our veterans on November 11th.
The Andrews Sisters were such a big hit last year that we are bringing them back for a repeat performance.
Thanks to BancFIrst for helping to sponsor this event again.
The evening will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a cookies and punch reception with the group taking the stage at 7:00 p.m. for a one-hour performance. Veterans and their spouses will be admitted free of charge.
The general public may attend for a $20 donation which will be used to purchase wreaths to honor our deceased veterans at Christmas.
Tickets may be purchased from any Auxiliary member or at Unique Market or Stroud Dry Cleaners.
The Auxiliary will also host Wreaths Across Stroud on December 16, 2023.
There will be a short program at the cemetery for the entire community. After the program, community members will be asked to place a wreath on a veteran’s grave. Our goal is to purchase one wreath for each veteran’s grave. There are close to 800 veterans at our cemetery.
A twenty-dollar donation will purchase two wreaths.
We have currently raised $910 which will enable us to purchase 91 wreaths. If you are willing to donate you may contact any Auxiliary member or mail a check to Cindy Mason ALA Treasurer 426 South 10th Avenue Stroud OK 74079.
We can never do enough to honor those men and women who fought and continue to fight to keep America free.
Putt Putt Kicks on Route 66 is now closed until next year. We will open for individuals, groups or birthday parties. Just call me at 918-527-9833 and together we can make arrangements for you to use the golf course.
Congratulations to the Stroud High School Tigers football team who trampled Liberty Mounds last Friday night with a score of 62-22 in their first district game.
The Stroud Middle School Tigers saved a win by holding the Kellyville Ponies to no score late in the 4th quarter as they were inching their way to the goal line.
Tigers took over the ball with a couple of minutes left in the game to seal the win by a score of 22-18. Great job by both teams. Tiger Pride!
The Stroud Tigers will travel to Allen High School Friday night to take on the Eagles for their second district game. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The Stroud Clothing Ministry will be open today, Thursday, from 8:00 a.m. until noon.
Monday night the Middle School Tigers will play the Luther Lions at Jack Poskey Field at 5:30 p.m. Check out Main Street’s digital sign for more activities.
