Town Talk

Town Talk Team Trivia is taking place Oct. 18th at 6:00 p.m. at the American Legion building in Stroud. The cost is $20 for an individual and $30 for a couple from the same household. It’s a steal of a deal because you get dinner which includes drink, entrée and dessert and a mind-stimulating game of trivia. On top of all of that you get to hang out with other community members. We always have a great time and are always surprised at how much we know and how much we know but can’t remember. All proceeds from this event will go to the sound system for the Bugle Boy. It’s so much fun, it’s “spooky.”

The Stroud High School band participated in Konawa Band Day recently. It was the first competition for the marching band in several years with many of their members being 7th and 8th graders. The band placed 3rd overall in their division and the color guard received Outstanding (which is 1st place) in their division. Congratulations to both the band and color guard for their accomplishments.

The American Legion Auxiliary and Town Talk are planning a community event called Wreaths Across Stroud on December 16th. Their goal is to place a wreath on every veteran’s grave at the Stroud Cemetery and currently have close to 800 veterans buried there. They are currently accepting donations to make this possible. A $20 donation will purchase two wreaths for the cemetery. if you would like to contribute to this event you may mail a check to the American Legion Auxiliary in care of Cindy Mason, Treasurer, 426 South 10th Avenue, Stroud OK 74079. There will be a short memorial service and then we will ask community members to place wreaths on the graves. Thank you in advance for helping us honor these men and women who served our country to maintain the freedoms we enjoy today.

In honor of our Veterans the American Legion Auxiliary and Town Talk are hosting the tribute group The Andrew Sisters on November 11th at the American Legion building. There will be a cookie and punch reception from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with the show beginning at 7:00 p.m. Veterans and their spouses are admitted free of charge. The general public may purchase tickets for $20 at Unique Market, Stroud Cleaners or from any Auxiliary member. We are thankful to Banc-First for helping sponsor this event. The Auxiliary hosted this same group last year and they were so good they decided to have them back for a second time. It’s a show you won’t want to miss. It will also give you an opportunity to thank our veterans for their service. All proceeds from the event will go to Wreaths Across Stroud.

Stroud Alum Class of 2006 Sonya Patel is being featured in this year’s Hundred Magazine which profiles 10 wildly capable women in Oklahoma City. We love keeping up with our graduates and their successes. Congratulations to Sonya on this honor.

I saw an advertisement on Facebook about a locally owned Halloween costume shop in Tulsa. They were asking community members to come visit them for all their Halloween items before visiting a big-box store. They, too, were encouraging their community members to shop local first. Let’s keep that in mind as we purchase our holiday supplies. Let’s see what our Stroud merchants have in store for us. Thank you for continuing to shop local…………… first!
