Town Talk

Congratulations to Coach Josh Presley and the Stroud High School Tigers football team for another great win this past week against the Gore Pirates. The Tigers dominated the Pirates with a win of 54 to 6. Friday night, November 24th, the Tigers will face-off against the Fairview Yellowjackets at the Moore High School football stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. This is the quarterfinals game in the OSSAA Class A football championship. Good luck to our Stroud Tigers.

The annual City Hall Angel Tree is up in their lobby. Angels are ready to be adopted. Stop by the office and pick one off the tree. Let’s make sure all children have a wonderful Christmas.

First United Methodist Church is hosting “MY Favorite Things” Christmas party on December 7th at 6:30 p.m. For this special gift exchange, bring three of the same thing, “unwrapped,” to the party. There is a $10 limit per item. Everyone is invited so plan on joining in on the fun.

The American Legion Auxiliary is still accepting donations for wreaths to be placed on veteran’s graves at the Stroud Cemetery for Christmas. For a $20 donation you purchase two wreaths. We have almost 800 veterans buried at the cemetery. Help the Auxiliary honor and remember our veterans this Christmas. Contact me at 918-527-9833 for more information on how to donate.

Thanks to everyone who volunteered their time to decorate Main Street and make the tree lighting a huge success. It takes all of us working together as a community to make these things happen. It was a fun family evening for the community. Thank you to Erin Bradley and the Stroud Chamber of Commerce and City Manager Bob Pearman and his crew for all their effort in putting together this event. Andrea Flatt Thompson and Alison Morris Emmons did a lot of the decorating so if you see these ladies out and about, give them a big high-five and a thank you.

Congratulations to Steve and Julie Bivin on celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. As their pastor, Mike Mitchell, said, “Fifty years doesn’t just happen. It takes work and commitment.” They are a great example of that. Steve is facing some health challenges so let’s keep the Bivin’s family in our prayers.

Condolences go out to the family of long-time Stroud resident Katherine Thornton who passed away this past week. Katherine was married to the late John Thornton and their children are Richard Thornton of Stroud and Belinda Lamb of Cushing. Her service was Monday in Stroud. She will be missed by her family and all who knew her.

Community and school activities are “on vacation” this week as we celebrate Thanksgiving. Our Sunday School lesson this week for my class of 3rd-5th graders was on thankfulness. We talked about things we were thankful for and one of my kiddos said, “my town.” I was touched that at such a young age they realize how great it is to live in a community like Stroud. Let’s support it by dining and shopping local……………. first!
