Davenport will be taking part in the “100 Miles of Christmas” event along Route 66 this year, along with 11 other communities, according to the Davenport Chamber of Commerce. The town’s theme is “A Small Town Christmas.”
In tune with this year’s theme, the city is working to revamp the town’s decor which will include greenery, wreaths, and new light pole decorations for along Route 66.
This year’s Christmas parade will be held on Dec. 9, with vendor booths and children’s activities taking place from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the fire station. They will hold Customer’s Appreciation Drawings at 6 p.m., with the parade to start at 7 p.m. Hot cocoa and visits with Santa will be available at the first station immediately following the parade.
For the parade, there will be cash prizes for first and second place in two float categories: individuals and businesses. They will also be awarding a ham or turkey to the two best-decorated homes. There is no need to enter this contest. Judges will view all the homes in town that are decorated and announce the winners on the weekend of Dec. 16.
