A tire blow out on SH 99 south of Stroud in Lincoln County reportedly caused a pickup to go out of control and crash, leading to the death of the driver and his passenger.
State Trooper Fryrear identified those who died in the one-vehicle collision as Javier Munoz Lechuga, 58, Tulsa and Francisco Najera-Vivar, 47, also of Tulsa.
Fryrear reported that Lechuga was the driver of a 2001 Chevy Silverado and Najera-Vivar was a passenger. Both were pronounced deceased on the scene due to injuries sustained in the collision, he said.
Lechuga reportedly was pinned approximately three hours before being freed by Stroud Fire Department using the Hurst Tool. Both of the occupants were transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Oklahoma City, the trooper said.
Fryrear stated the collision occurred around 4:36 p.m., .2 miles south of E 910 Road, four miles south of Stroud.
He reported the vehicle was traveling northbound on SH 99 approaching E 910 Road when it experienced an equipment malfunction, a tire blowout, causing the driver to lose control with the vehicle leaving the roadway to the northeast, traveling 316 feet and striking a tree.
Condition of the driver at the time of the collision was listed as apparently normal.
Seat belts were equipped in the vehicle and in use by the driver and not in use by the passenger, Fryrear said. The pickup was equipped with airbags but they didn’t deploy, he stated.
Fryrear, of Troop A, was assisted by Lt. White and Trooper Smith, also of Troop A, the Stroud Police Department, Sac and Fox Police Department and the Medical Examiner’s Office.
