Carmen Harkins, head librarian at the Chandler Public Library, is retiring after 35 years, according to a press release from the library.
Her last day will be June 28, and the library invites patrons to stop by between now and then to wish Harkins well in her retirement.
Carmen started at the library in 1988, when it was in the basement of the old City Hall building, where Emergency Management is currently located. At the time, business was conducted on a manual typewriter and not much else, according to the press release.
The library moved to its current location in the historic Clapp Building in 1992.
“I felt like it was a mansion. There was so much space,” Harkins said.
The move allowed for more services for patrons, including WiFi, computers, and printing.
