A Prague man who recently entered a guilty blind plea to four felonies with children under 16 has been sentenced to two life sentences plus 15 years in prison for committing those crimes..
Lou Earl Nelson, 43, was charged Oct. 25, 2023 in Lincoln County District Court with two counts of lewd acts with a child under 16, possession of child pornography and using access to computer to violate Oklahoma statutes.
On June 4 this year, he entered the blind guilty pleas to all four felonies. Appearing recently before District Judge John Canavan for sentencing, the judge found Nelson guilty as charged on all four counts.
On Counts 1 and 2, the judge handed Nelson two life prison terms in the Department of Corrections, a $50 VCA and court costs on each count.
On Count 3, he sentenced Nelson to 10 years in DOC, a $100 fine, $100 VCA and court costs.
On Count 4, Nelson was sentenced to 5 years in DOC, assessed a $100 fine and $100 VCA and court costs.
Judge Canavan ordered the sentences to run concurrently with each other. Nelson is to receive credit for tie served and ordered to report to the Court Clerk’s Office within 180 days of release.
The judge had ordered a pre-sentence investigation and set sentencing for Aug. 6. The charges came following an investigation by a District Attorney Investigator and Prague police.
Judge Canavan had previously advised Nelson his crimes require that he serve 85 percent of his sentence.
Associate District Judge Sheila Kirk earlier had set bond for Nelson at $200,000 at the time charges were filed.
Assistant District Attorney Lori McConnell prosecuted the case and Nelson’s defense attorney was William Pierce.
McConnell had filed supplemental information in the case showing that on March 9, 2006 in the District Court of Yolo County, state of California, Nelson was convicted of the felony offense of importing or distributing obscene material or child pornography.
In Count 1, Nelson is charged with lewd acts with a child under 16. He is accused of committing the crime between Nov. 1, 2022 and Sep. 12, 2023 with a child who was eight years old at the time in Prague.
Count 2 charged Nelson with lewd acts with a different child under 16 between May 19, 2023 and Sep. 12, 2023 who was six years old at the time in Prague.
Count 3 accused him of possession of child pornography on Sep. 14, 2023 by possessing images of children of their private parts and viewing them on his cell phone in Prague.
In count 4, Nelson is charged with using access to a computer to violate Oklahoma statutes between Nov. 1, 2022 and Sep. 14, 2023 by using his cell phone to store or display child pornography in view of two children.
