The Chandler City Council approved the final plat for Phase 1 of Chandler Meadows, subject to the City’s engineer’s approving the streets once they’re completed at their regular monthly meeting on April 8.
A representative from LTS services presented the plat for the subvision, which has 59 lots on 12 and a half acres. The utilities, water and wastewater have all been installed and drainage has been taken care of, according to City Manager Jason Orr. Code Enforcement Officer Scott Wintz and one of the City’s engineers have looked things over and approved them.
The streets were scheduled to be finished by now, but bad weather pushed it back. They are set to be completed sometime this week.
The main topic of the meeting was the public hearing where the Council voted to demolish the buildings at 1214 and 1216 Manvel, also known as the St. Cloud Hotel. In an interview on April 11, Orr said the City was accepting bids for the demo until Monday, April 14. Once the company has been selected, it will have five days to get started. He said they’ve already received one bid.
“We’re not going to hold them to an end completion date but Scott told them the most important thing is getting the south wall torn down first and protecting the vet, so that’s priority number one,” he said.
During the Council meeting, Wintz estimated the demolition could cost anywhere from $120,000 to $200,000. A final amount won’t be known until they’ve received all the bids and selected one. The City plans to put that as a lien on the property and Orr said they may recoup some of it but didn’t seem to think they would get it all back.
“That’s just a part of doing business, really, with code enforcement,” he said. “We have an obligation just to clean stuff up or make stuff safe. And then, you know, hopefully you might get some money back eventually.”
He added that Chandler is in good shape to cover it. Other items that the City Council approved in the meeting include renewing Orr’s contract for another year, an addendum to the lease agreement with Chandler Community Development Trust Authority, and declaring an emergency in accordance with city ordinance to expedite the purchase of two replacement storm sirens.
In the Chandler Municipal Authority meeting right before City Council, the Council approved payment of $146,620 to Scapes, Inc. for the Imel Park Project. They also approved the American Rescue Plan Act grant between the Chandler Municipal Authority and Oklahoma Water Resources Board for the wastewater treatment facility expansion project.
The roughly $6 million project will be fully funded between the grant and the Iowa Tribe of Oklahoma.
