A dedication ceremony will be held on June 14 in Stroud for a Gold Star Memorial marker in Ed Smalley Centennial Park next to the Rock Cafe.
The ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. on Flag Day. Gold Star Families is a nonprofit organization created to support families who have lost a loved one in service to the United States through the Armed Forces. A Gold Star Memorial honors those who have died in service, while a Blue Star Memorial honors service members who are still living.
The new memorial will join a Blue Star Memorial and the Bugle Boy statue in the park, making it the first park in Oklahoma to have all three. It is also the first Gold Star memorial to be placed in Oklahoma.
