Town Talk

Another Stroud Summer Fest has wrapped up. Congratulations to the Chamber of Commerce and the City of Stroud for a successful event. I was out of town, but I heard nothing but rave reviews about the event. Thank you to Chamber President Erin Bradley and City Manager Bob Pearman and their crews for all the hard work they put in to make it all come together.

Thank you, also, to Judy Grotts for the dedication ceremony on Saturday of our Gold Star Memorial Marker. It was very well attended and a privilege for Stroud to receive this. The marker honors families who have lost a family member due to war.

Town Talk is still raising funds for a concrete foundation to be placed at Stroud Cemetery for a pavilion to be used for graveside services. The cost of the pavilion is taken care of so Town Talk has committed to paying for the foundation. Our goal is $4500, and we have already received several donations. You may make your check out to Town Talk or the City of Stroud and mail to Aleta Smalley at 301 West 6th Street or Julie Bivin at 501 South 10th Avenue. Both addresses Congratulations to Kamden Bray and Carly De-Leon who recently took the softball field one last time in their Stroud High School varsity uniforms at the All-State Softball game. These two athletes have given their all to Lady Tiger Softball. The two girls have left a lasting mark on the Stroud program and will be missed. Town Talk wishes them much success in their future endeavors.

Once again, I attended Gideon’s baseball tournament in Norman this past weekend. His team, Sandlot, played five games over the weekend and won all of them.

They were the Perfect Game Tournament Champions. Gideon pitched the semi-finals game and had the privilege of playing it on the OU Baseball Field. Gage Bailey, Stroud kiddo, plays for the team, Fuel, and played in the same tournament. He and Gideon play together on Stroud’s Tiger team but this time they faced off in the championship game.

Putt-Putt Kicks on Route 66 has scheduled its summer opening for July 5th. Opening has been delayed due to all the rain we’ve experienced. The course will once again be open Thursday through Sunday 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

The 4th of July is coming up and you can see the fireworks stands already starting to pop up. It’s not too early to start planning for your holiday celebrations.

Stroud merchants are ready and willing to meet all your needs. Have a great week and thank you for continuing to shop local……….. first!
