Town Talk continues to raise money for a concrete foundation for a pavilion at the Stroud Cemetery which will be used for graveside services. An enclosed sign will also be erected where a map of the cemetery can be found along with the location of individual grave locations. Thank you to everyone who has supported this project thus far. Construction will take place in the near future, and I will keep you posted here in this column. If you would like to donate you may mail your donation to Julie Bivin at 501 South 10th Avenue or Aleta Smalley at 301 West 6th Street. You may make your check out to Town Talk.

Jeff Stiner posted on the Stroud Alumni Facebook page that his Aunt Dorine (Byrd) Underwood had passed away on June 9th. A memorial service was held for her in Dallas, Texas on June 20th. Dorine was a sister to Katherine Vickrey and Louise Stiner. Jeff thought she graduated with the Stroud High School Class of 1955. While living in Stroud, Dorine worked for many years at Stroud National Bank before moving to Gunter, Texas. Town Talk offers its condolences to Dorine’s family and friends.

My husband and biggest supporter, Larry Reed, celebrated his birthday this past Monday. He is my “behind the scenes partner” in all things for Stroud. I couldn’t be involved in my hometown projects if it weren’t for Larry. So, I’m sending a “shout out” happy birthday to this guy.

Baseball news for the week is Gideon has returned home from Hoover, Alabama where he competed in seven games over six days in the 2025 Perfect Game WWBA National Championship. His team was one of 148 teams entered in the tournament, and they made it to the top sixteen. This past Sunday he played at ORU in two showcase baseball games with his team from last year, Sandlot Brown 15U. Stroud High School sophomore Cal Shields also plays on this team. They won both their games and represented Stroud well.

Happy Fourth of July to each of you. Have a fun and safe holiday and head down to Foster Park for the big fireworks show. Remember to shop local……..first, when purchasing all your celebration needs.
