Town Talk

Town Talk is excited for the 2025 Tiger football season. To help cheer the Tigers on, we are selling black-handle Tiger Blue cowbells.

One side of the bell says Stroud Tigers with a paw print. The back side is blank unless you want your player’s number on the back.

Non-personalized bells are $10 and with a number they are $13.

These bells are not just reserved for high school. Any sport or any age may purchase and customize. I can tell you right now Stroud Tiger No. 4 Jacob Beck (running back) has been our most popular number.

His family and friends are going to be “clanking” loud for him. Let’s fill the stands with cowbells as we take on the Chandler Lions this Friday night at 7:00 p.m. at Jack Poskey Field in Stroud. As the saying goes “More cowbell, please!”

Also, turn those blue porch lights on Friday night. Let’s paint the town blue! Good luck to Coach Presley, his assistant coaches and the entire Tiger football team.

Former Stroud Tiger football quarterback and 2005 Stroud High School graduate, Dylan Baker, returned to Stroud after earning his Eagle, Globe and Anchor in San Diego for successfully completing United States Marine Corps Boot Camp. Upon completion of Boot Camp, Dylan received the High Shooter Award from the Marine Corps Association in recognition of being Alpha Company’s High Shooter while undergoing recruit training.

This is quite an accomplishment. Dylan got to return to Stroud for a few days and then will return to San Diego for more training before being stationed in North Carolina.

Dylan is the son of Chad and Kim Baker and the grandson of Pamela Gallagher, Ronnie and Dee Baker and the late Pat NeeSmith.

Congratulations to Air Force veteran and Stroud resident Cosby E. Clark, Jr. who has been chosen to travel to Washington, D.C. on the upcoming October Oklahoma Warriors Honor Flight.

Cosby served as a Communications Officer with the Pacific Air Force during the Vietnam War. Stroud is proud to have another one of our veterans honored in this manner.

Shortly before his death, retired Navy veteran Steve Bivin had the privilege of making the trip with his son, Ryan. It made a lasting impression on Steve as I know it will Cosby. This is such a wonderful opportunity and a small way we can say “thank you” to our veterans.

Cross Country runners once again competed this past weekend at a meet in Okemah. Runners from elementary through high school ran from 1 mile to 3.1 mile lengths.

I had not attended a cross country meet before this year but have been amazed at the number of students who crawl out of bed on a Saturday morning to compete. The races begin at 8:30 a.m. and are completed by about 10:30 a.m.

The number of spectators who rise early to see their kiddos compete is amazing, too. I saw Great-Grandmother Nellie Faye Cooper at the Stroud meet and my mom hasn’t missed a race yet.

Let’s wish them good luck as they travel to Henryetta on Saturday morning. Mom and I will be on the sidelines along with their parents cheering Lincoln and August on to the finish line, as well as cheering on the entire Tiger team.

A little birdie told me they saw local artist John Owens up at Pete’s Pocket Park on Main Street doodling around on the wall.

Looks like we might have another new addition to our art wall. Be sure and check out what’s going on at the park. It might be fun to watch the progress.

People were asking on Facebook where they could buy Tiger gear and many people answered.

If you sell Tiger gear, you might post on Facebook or even take out an advertisement in the Stroud American, so shoppers know where to shop.

Have a great week and thank you for continuing to shop local…….first!
