Peyton Hogan, a freshman at Stroud High School, was honored at Friday night’s football game for rescuing a man from a burning car earlier in the fall. He was given an award for his bravery during halftime, handed to him by Christopher Miller, the man he rescued.
“Payton’s bravery serves as an inspiring example of selflessness and heroism within our community,” a post on Stroud Public School’s social media said.
On Sept. 23, Hogan was at home watching TV when he heard a crash outside his home. When he went to see what had happened, he saw that a car had wrecked and was on fire. Hogan was able to pull Miller, the driver, from the car just moments before it was completely engulfed in flames, according to news reports. Miller has told media that he is grateful for Hogan and his family, while the teen said it was the right thing to do.
