The Davenport Bulldogs are making a habit of 48-0.
For the third time in four weeks, they picked that as their winning score and pinned it on Yale’s version of the Bulldogs.
The win wrapped up an 8-2 regular season for Davenport. Next up is the first round of the playoffs as they host Oaks Mission at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
But back to this 48-0 thing for a minute. That was the final score when the Bulldogs beat Depew four weeks ago. Then came a 52-6 win over Prue, then another 48-0 win over Olive. And Friday night it was 48-0 over Yale.
That’s three times in four weeks, but what’s eerie is that the game before Depew was a 47-0 over Wesleyan Christian. One more point in that one and it would have been 48-0 in four of five weeks.
Kyle Hobill paced Davenport’s offense against Yale, packing the ball 10 times for 123 yards and four scores.
Carson Funk had nine carries for 80 yards and two touchdowns. Wyatt Cross added a touchdown and Tyler Harrison had three carries for 63 yards.
Joseph Acord led the defense with 11 tackles, including five solos.
Cross and Casey Harelson had seven apiece and Funk, Hobill and Parker Mitchell had six each.
The win continued Davenport’s dominance in the second half of the season. After starting 3-2, the Bulldogs have won their last five by a combined score of 243-6.
Now comes Oaks Mission, which is 2-8 after losing its last game to South Coffeyville/Copan.
The score in that one? 48-0.
