Don McManus is an artist with concrete and we now have a beautiful new extended patio and walkway to the water feature in the backyard at Prairie Pointe.
You’re the best, Don! Thank you! We have also received several additional donations from residents for plants and flowers in addition to the original large donation that got this project started.
Someone asked Keturah Brown if she was going swimming in our new pond. She responded, “Yes, as soon as I mend the hole in the knee of my swimsuit.”
Keturah supplies us with lots of laughs.
It’s a week of birthdays at Prairie Pointe: Keturah Brown on Monday; Martha Bookout on Tuesday; and Alton McCune on Thursday. Happy Birthday folks!
We are finishing up the autobiography of Frank Eaton AKA Pistol Pete . We read he had a girlfriend named Jennie who gave him a crucifix to wear around his neck for protection
The girl must have had a premonition as the crucifix actually saved Pistol Pete’s life on one occasion when it deflected a bullet that the lawman would have taken in the chest. Frank would later write of this event, “I’d rather have the prayers of a good woman in a fight than half a dozen hot guns because she is talking to Headquarters.”
Unfortunately, Frank never got the opportunity to thank Jennie as she died of pneumonia. He buried the cross at the head of her grave.
Pistol Pete was a resident of Perkins, Oklahoma from 1929 to 1958. The Eaton House, originally located at 119 E. Chantry Street in Perkins, was moved to the Oklahoma Territorial Plaza in 2008 and restored through a grant from the Oklahoma Historical Society. I see a day trip to there in our near future.
We will have to warn Bill Sasser we are coming to town. Bill is a former Stroud Citizen of the Year and longtime chairman of the Stroud Hospital and Development Authority.
He was very involved with the reconstruction of the Stroud Hospital when it was heavily damaged by the 1999 tornado.
Our next reading will be an article out of The New Yorker magazine about Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig and how they brought stardom to baseball.
Church services were held at Prairie Pointe Sunday and I am very proud of our group of many denominations coming together for communal worship. Church is actually a gathering of the failthful rather than the building in which it takes place. We so look forward to the days when our local church groups can come on Sundays and bring their special music and message to us again. Hopefully, that is soon!
The governing board of the Stroud Hospital and Development met last week and approved the purchase and installation of a security camera system.
They also authorized obtaining quotes for a public address system and automatic door openers. Board members include Adam Chace, Ken Carpenter, Debbie Garrett, Tammy Smith and Bill Ash. Stroud City Manager Bob Pearman and City Clerk Gayle Thornton are ex afficio members. Also in attendance were Administrator and Director of Nursing, Lisa Gordon and volunteer, Clara Hodgens.
