This year’s Trick-or-Treat night and related activities are going to be different probably in most areas of our state for sure.
Of course, that’s because of COVID-19 that has impacted so many activities and events throughout communities, our cities and towns in Oklahoma and across the country.
My wife and I were talking the other evening that we have no idea what to expect this year. We wonder if we’ll have a few or a whole bunch of trick-or-treaters that visit us.
Guess we’ll find out soon enough since it’s just two days from now, this Saturday evening.
She and I also were talking about how much we enjoyed going trick-or-treating as kids when we were growing up.
As I was writing this on Tuesday morning, it seemed strange to hear the crackling of ice-covered limbs and branches falling from ice-coated trees throughout our neighborhood, including the one in our yard.
Tuesday was just Oct. 27. I honestly don’t ever remember having an ice storm before Halloween when I was growing up.
I’d be curious to know if we’d had any crippling ice storms across much of our state as we experienced on Monday and Tuesday of this week that was lingering on into Wednesday before Halloween.
When I was a kid, even still as I neared being a teenager, the kids I ran around with at that time, we all looked forward to Trick-or-Treat night. Despite even the coldest October night, or even if it was drizzling or just slightly raining, we bundled up and had a good time.
The bunch I grew up with looked forward to getting the candy and goodies. Even those handing out the candy and goodies, like my parents, enjoyed it as well.
We didn’t have daylight savings time in those days. So, we began right at dark and normally we were finished by 8 or so. We just had a good time.
I remember one time I dressed up as an injured football player, another time as a young hunter I think. It was all about having a good time with our friends.
It will be interesting to see if we have many trick-or-treaters in our area Saturday night with everything that’s been going on this year.
