Devoted Christian, husband, father and grandfather
Jack Lowell McLean passed on from this life on May 21, 2022, at his home in Chandler, Okla. He was surrounded by his loving family during his final moments.
Jack was born on August 20, 1933, in Sayre, Okla., to Pearcy and Willie (Boyd) McLean. From a very early age Jack fell in love with horses and had aspirations of becoming a jockey.
He married his forever darling, Dorothy Louise Dunlap, on July 7, 1951, after somehow convincing her to run off to Texas with him. However, that was not the start of their love story. Jack confessed in handwritten letters, that he had “loved her since the moment he met her.” Signing many of them, “yours for the taking, Jack.”
Early on in their marriage, the couple moved to Pawhuska, where Jack worked as a ranch hand. In the words of his adoring wife, that was where he “found his focus.” The Town of Pawhuska held a special place in his heart even after moving away. Until recent years, the pair would travel back every year for the Ben Johnson Sr. Memorial Steer Roping.
Jack went on to build a career as an industrial electrician, prior to retiring. That career took him across international waters, and he spent several years in Saudi Arabia. In the deserts of Saudi, Jack connected with young men of all different cultural backgrounds. He never failed to make friends wherever he went. While he did an amazing job as a husband, father, ranch hand and industrial electrician, for Jack, there was no greater honor than doing the Lord’s work.
After being baptized into Christ, Jack devoted himself to sharing the Gospel, and being a role model to young and old Christians alike. He had a passion for supporting young preachers and served as an elder of the church for many years.
Jack is survived by his beautiful wife of 70 plus years, his children Kathy (Jim) Lambert of Chandler, Mike (Virginia) McLean of Choctaw, Okla., and Teresa Daugherty of Mustang, Okla.; eight grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren and one brother Jerry (Donna) McLean of Yukon, Okla., as well as other family and many, many friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents Pearcy and Willie McLean, his son Kevin McLean and his brother Jim McLean.
Jack was seen as a rough and tough cowboy. Always sporting his wranglers, a pearl snap, his cowboy boots and hat. But anyone who really knew him, knew how deeply he loved. He loved his darling wife, his wonderful children, grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. But, most importantly, he loved God and that love shown through everything Jack did. He will be wholeheartedly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
A memorial service for Jack will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 4, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at the Route 66 Interpretative Center in Chandler.
