Lois Brown, a longtime resident of Meeker, died peacefully at the Meeker Nursing Home on April 19, 2020 at the age of 96. For many years until their retirement, she and her husband worked for the Meeker School District, and were familiar faces to many Meeker children growing up. Following her husband’s death, she lived with her sister in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and then with her niece in Wichita, Kansas. When her health began to fail, she chose to return to Meeker.
Born October 18, 1923 in Topeka, Kansas, she was the youngest of four sisters. She grew up primarily in McCracken, Kansas, where on September 28, 1941 she married Norville Bryan (“Brownie”) Brown, also of McCracken. The accompanying picture was taken around that time. They had one son, Norville Dean Brown.
Preceding her in death were her husband Norville, her son Dean, and her sisters Edna, Ruby and Hazel. She is survived by her nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews, to whom she was a beloved Aunt Lois.
Cremation will be followed at a future date by burial in McCracken, Kansas, alongside her husband of 60-plus years.
