Updates from Meeker Town Hall

1. Update on Meeker Lake “Quapaw 15 Project

A. Still a lot of good things happening at OKC at the Conservation office. The COVID pandemic has all the Gov. offices working part time at home & some at the office, which makes it very hard to communicate with them.

B. The soil samples must have been sent to China. Still no report from the lab.

C. Last week I did talk to Tammy Sawatsky about the new Lake resort & she reminded us that no building of any structures until we receive the study. We already knew that. I’m still not very good with this patience thing. Oh well, like they say “Hurry up & wait.”

2. Update on Glenncrest Park

A. Playground sets & swings are erected & in place.

B. About half of the rubberized mulch is in place.

C. Concrete forms are being built for the partial new sidewalk & for the new handicapped swing area.

D. Rocks for new borders are being put in place.

E. Dirt is being put in place for the new flower & shrub gardens at the entrance.

F. Our asphalt contractor put us on hold. He is laying a thousand ton of asphalt a day at Tinker so that kicked us to the curb. Other contractors are being asked to step up.

G. The basketball court should be seal coated & striped this week.

H. Basketball goal post anchors were installed last week in concrete so this week we will slip the goal post over the anchors & then place the backboard & goal in place. Then it will be net time. Yea!

I. Volleyball sand is still being leveled out.

J. Volleyball net has been ordered.

K. Since Mrs. Walton & Mrs. Williams have been doing such a great job on the flowers around town, they have offered their services to organize & plant the flower beds at the park.

L. Official opening date of the park will be announced in a few weeks.

3. Update on Car show & Parade

A. Over $3,000 worth of prizes & awards are to be given away to the car show participants. Prizes given away every 30 minutes to the car folks. Vendors are also to receive awards from Growth & Development.

B. Special Thanks goes out to our Meeker Police Officer, Dusty Stephens & his dad, for making our unique 1st Place trophies to be given for 1st Place in the Car, Truck & Rat Rod 4x4 & Off Roads division. The biggest trophy they made will go to the Grand Prize Winner of all the classes. These awards are scheduled to be given out at approx. 3 P.M., in between the live music shows.

C. 4. Update on Chamber of Commerce

A. Plan on attending the Fall Festival, Saturday, October 1st at the Meeker High School Bus Barn. Sounds like a lot of fun! I hope the dunk tank is there again this year.
