Over 40 students calmly walk to retrieve their bows at the sound of a beep. They then form a long, even line that runs from one end of the basketball court to the other. The air, which had previously been filled with country music, now had the sounds of soft “thunks.

North Rock Creek’s boys, the Dale boys and McLoudgirls brought home championship from tournaments last week.NRC beat Chandler in the finals of the Okemah tournament, Dale won the Boomarang Classic on its home court and McLoud won the First United Bank Classic at Bethel.

The dance teams from Stroud and Chandler Highs both competed at the OSDTDA State Championship this weekend in Tulsa, and both walked away state champs.Stroud High School Pom brought home state championships in 1A/2A hip-hop and jazz, while placing second in pom, according to Coach Megan Jones.

Carney’s Jake Martin puts up an underhand layup in the lane against the Wellston JV Thursday night in the first round of the Agra Tournament. Carney won, 61-27, then beat Stroud in the semifinals in overtime. Meeker’s boys won the tournament by beating Carney, 75-44, in the finals.

Stroud’s magical season ended prematurely Friday when the Davis Wolves up-ended the previously unbeaten Tigers, 14-6, in the state semifinals at Noble.Davis advanced to the Class 2A-II state championship game at UCO on Saturday.

Wrestling isn’t new in Oklahoma. It’s been around for ages, producing top wrestlers like Olympian Kendall Cross from Mustang and local Lincoln County legend Jerry Best, who is the only undefeated four-time state champion from Chandler High School.
