Chandler woman due in court on charge of assaulting officers

A Chandler woman is due in court this week on three felony charges, including two for assault and battery upon a police officer.

Cheryl Manning, 46, was formally charged in Lincoln County District on Oct. 12 with two counts of assault and battery upon a police officer and placing bodily fluids on a police officer, all felonies.

She also was charged with drinking an alcoholic beverage in a public place.

She appeared before Associate District Judge Sheila Kirk on the day she was charged and ordered to make her initial appearance at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 10.

The judge set a $3,000 bond for Manning.

In Count 1, Manning is accused on Oct. 11 on the roadway near 930538 S. 3400 Road in Lincoln County of intentionally kicking Chandler Police Chief Matt Mattheyer while he was performing his duty to arrest her for being intoxicated in public.

Count 2 charges Manning on the same day and place of intentionally kicking Chandler Police Lt. Dax Phipps while he was attempting to arrest her for being intoxicated in a public place.

In Count 3, Manning is accused of spitting saliva on Phipps as he was trying to arrest her for public intoxication.

Themisdemeanorcharges her with drinking a Smirnoff Green Apple alcoholic beverage and being intoxicated at that same location.

In a probable cause affidavit,LincolnCountyDeputy Sheriff Jimmy Brown stated he was dispatched to East 930 Road and South 3400 Road, one-half mile south of Chandler near the residence at 930538 S. 3400 Road shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 11 to a single vehicle crash.

He reported Comm Center advised the driver was intoxicated and when he arrived MattheyerandPhipps had a female on the ground in handcuffs.

He stated in the affidavit the female was yelling, screaming and cussing trying to get up saying she wanted to fight the two officers.

Brown said the vehicle was on its top when he arrived and Phipps asked Manning had she been drinkingandsheresponded that she had.

She told Phipps when asked how much, that she had too much to drink, according to the affidavit.

She acknowledged to Phipps she had consumed a six-pack of Smirnoff ice green apple.

Brown stated Deputy Christopher Hyde arrived on the scene and assisted him in putting Manning in the back of his patrol unit. Brown took her to Lincoln County Jail without incident.
