Grants for Agra, Carney FFA chapters

The Agra and Carney FFA chapters were two of three to receive technology and innovation grants for STEM education, according to a press release from Devon Energy and Ovintiv Inc., which are sponsoring the grants.

The grants were announced at the FFA Central Area Chapter Officer Leadership Training (COLT) in Norman on Friday, Oct. 3.

Agra will use the grant to purchase state-of-the-art equipment for hands-on learning through the CASE Agricultural Equipment Maintenance and Technology program at the school. It will give students a foundation understanding and skill set to pursue careers as agricultural technicians, the release said.

Carney plans to buy a DJI Osmo Pocket 3 camera with the Creator Combo and a DJI Air 3S Drone with the Fly More Combo so that students can experience agricultural communications. They’ll learn everything in the film process, from the actual filming itself to post-production editing. This will help students to build video production skills and potentially inspire future careers in the industry, according to the press release.

“Hands-on experiences are powerful in helping students discover their passions and build confidence in their abilities,” said Marla Freeman, community relations manager at Devon. “Through these grants, FFA members gain access to innovative tools that sharpen their problem-solving skills and strengthen their understanding of science and technology. We’re proud to invest in the future of agriculture and the young leaders who will shape it.”

A representative from Ovintiv said FFA students are developing the skills and vision needed to lead tomorrow’s workforce.

“By providing access to cutting-edge technology, we’re empowering students to dream bigger and make lasting impacts in their communities,” said “By providing access to cutting-edge technology, we’re empowering students to dream bigger and make lasting impacts in their communities.”

Devon began the grant program in 2019 to increase access to advanced tools used in the agricultural industry and provide real-world learning experiences. This is the fifth year that Ovintiv has participated.
