Prairie Pointe residents Margie Testerman and James Green, brother and sister, celebrated their birthdays Saturday. Family from Texas spent the weekend in Stroud and brought cake for the occasion. They also treated the “Birthday Kids” to dinner Saturday evening at Scotty B’s in Davenport.

Musician, singer and songwriter Danny Miller of Meeker entertained the lunch crowd last Tuesday. He was happy to be playing his gigs inside again and we are happy about that too.

Thursday evening we enjoyed the PBS documentary “Killers of the Flower Moon” in our theatre room. It told the story of the Osage Indians, who, in the 1920’s became the wealthiest group of people per capita in the world because of the oil under their land in Oklahoma. They were then serially murdered in one of the most sinister crimes in American History. A movie version of this story, starring Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio, will begin filming in Pawhuska, Ok this month.

Rae Bland has led church services the past two weeks. Her topic Sunday was “Forgiveness.” Church services lead by the various members of the Stroud Ministerial Alliance will resume at Prairie Pointe on February 7.

We are currently reading Nora Ephron’s book “I Feel Bad About My Neck.” In this book Ephron tells of her daily tribulations of feminine maintenance: removing unwanted hair, moisturizing patches of skin the consistency of a loofah and recovering from treadmill injuries. It’s a fun story and we love to laugh at Prairie Pointe.

Not that death is anything to laugh about, but we also find the occasional obituary of a total stranger in the Tulsa or OKC Sunday newspaper that merits re-reading. Last week, a lady’s obituary told of her “lively and irreverent family which included a family band, revenge chicken killings, and unlawful banana acquisitions.” It went on to describe how, as a child of the depression, with six daughters born in six years, “she learned many do-it-yourself skills including paperhanging, sewing, hairstyling, earpiercing, cat midwifery, intramural rodent removal, landscaping and bricklaying. She also instilled in her children a life-long devotion to bleach, rubber gloves and bladed cleaning tools. “ She was also founder of the Martha Club which studied the ideals of Martha Stewart and Martha of the New Testament. What a fun lady! I wish I had known her.

Bret Graham will be here in concert Wednesday, February 17. Due to continued COVID precautions, we are limiting guests to two per resident. Temperature checks and masks will be required but what a treat to have our entertainers like Bret and Danny in the building again and our church people returning on Sunday. The vaccine is a good thing so PLEASE gets yours as soon as you are eligible. Remember it does not provide 100% protection so we still need to follow the 3 W’s: Wash your hands, Wear your mask and Watch your distance.
