The Meeker Board of Education this week voted to add a second teacher to the agricultural education program.
During discussion prior to the vote, School Supt. Jeff Pruitt advised the board members, “We’re turning Ag students away. He, Logan Johns, Ag instructor is running lots of numbers in terms of students.”
Pruitt explained he has to send a form into Career Tech to get the funding.
“I don’t like having to turn kids away,” he said.
In response to Board President Ashley Sellers’ question about space for a second program, Pruitt replied, “Yes, we do have the space.”
The second program would be implemented in the 2023-2024 school year, Pruitt said.
High School Principal Brad Buxton said three teachers applied and received Donor Choose grants and several items have been purchased with those.
He reported high school enrollment stands at 209 students.
Buxton also introduced several members of the Generation Citizen class at Meeker High School who have proposed to have a community pool constructed in Meeker.
