What started as stop for an expired tag lead to a 2 pound drug bust in Carney.

According to the affidavit filed by Carney Police Chief Jacob O’Donnell, O’Donnell observed a vehicle driving north on Highway 177 in Carney that had an expired tag on Friday, Oct. 2.

After approaching the car and getting Gary Wayne Harper Jr.’s Oklahoma drivers license and Constance Edwards’ Oklahoma identification card, dispatch confirmed that the tag had expired at the end of June, according to the affidavit.

While both individuals exited the vehicle and waited for the next available wrecker, O’Donnell and Tryon Police Chief Billy Wilson began inventory on the vehicle.

According to the affidavit they found three needles with a clear liquid, two battery operated scales, two glass smoking devices with a white and black substance inside, two glass containers with a clear liquid, two glass containers with a white crystal substance, 16 clear plastic bags containing a white crystal substance and three large bags of a white crystal substance, which tested positive for methamphetamines.

According to the affidavit, the 19 bags of the white crystal substance approximately weighed 1054 grams, which is 2.3 pounds.

Gary Wayne Harper Jr., 47, of Drumright and Constance Edwards, 31, of Cushing were charged with aggravated trafficking in illegal drugs and transported to the Lincoln County Jail.

Harper and Edwards had their initial appearance Tuesday, Oct.13. Their bonds stand at $75,000 each.
