Happenings at Prairie Pointe

Prairie Pointe celebrated Father’s Day with residents Alton McCune, Roy Flatt, Wirt Trawick and Phil Johnson. All four are Veterans and collectively have fathered at least 20 children plus all the grands and great-grands.

Our special dads were treated with a gift sack of goodies which included a steak knife which was a clue to their Sunday dinner menu surprise.

Sunday church services were held. Hymns were sung, Rae Bland gave a devotional and Beverley Graham led the closing prayer. It is a special time but we are really looking forward to the various church groups returning on Sundays for worship services.

JR and Kay Owens of Eufaula were here last week to visit mom Glenda. JR had a treatment in Tulsa that morning and wanted to come by while outdoor visiting is still allowed. Many people think the COVID virus may get worse before it gets better and the numbers seem to support that.

Our daily book reading has taken a siesta while we await delivery of our next selection - “Off the Sauce” by Lewis Meyer. It is a story of the author’s lifelong struggle with alcoholism but with lots of humor as with his other books. Pioneer history and humor are our favorite topics at Prairie Pointe.

We enjoy family and friends coming again to Prairie Pointe but we are still in a pandemic so precautions must be followed. Visitors, wearing a mask, may come to the front door where temperatures are checked and a questionnaire completed. Once guests are cleared, visits can take place outside on the porch with 6’ social distancing observed. All visitors and residents must wear a mask at all times during the visit. It’s not the optimal situation, but it beats the total lockdown. I know a gentleman in a luxury assisted living in California who hasn’t been outside his room since March. They obviously have one, or mostly likely several, in the facility with the COVID virus which requires all residents to be quarantined. We have been so fortunate here in Stroud and Lincoln County. We hope and pray to stay that way!

Congratulations to my niece Emily Cooper and Cayden Hammock of Prague who were married this past weekend in an outdoor ceremony at The Barn in Edmond. Parents of the bride were the late Crystal and John D. Cooper, Jr. Parents of the groom are Liz and Mike Blocker of Prague and Ron Hammock. After an abbreviated honeymoon in the Dallas area, the couple will reside in Stillwater where both will graduate from Oklahoma State University in December.

Next Tuesday, June 30, is Election Day. If you have not made arrangements to absentee vote, please make an effort to go to the polls. Voting is one of our most important rights and responsibilities as a U.S. Citizen. It’s your civic duty. Remember the classic phrase, “If you don’t vote, you can’t complain.”
