Beta Sigma Phi event

Stroud’s Laureate BetaAlpha chapter of Beta Sigma Phi international sorority kicked off its new year with the annual Beginning Day event.

Chris Hodge hosted the members for a potluck dinner. President Pam Hunt welcomed members back from the summer adjournment and those celebrating birthdays or anniversaries during the month were recognized..

Yearbooks prepared by Kim Johnson, using the 2022-23 Theme “Sisters at Your Fingertips,” were distributed and Committees reported on plans and projects for the upcoming sorority year. The Ways and Means chair, Mary Jackson, announced the chapter will begin selling mums as fundraiser to support service projects as requests are received for dontions or assistance.

A major service project this year will be sponsoring a Walk for Diabetes planned for November to raise funds for diabetes research to support of member and their families who live with that disease. More information will become available as the date gets closer . Everyone is invited to walk.

Other service projects approved inluded donations to the non-profit organization headed by member Cindy Mason, called Faith over Fear, that donates items to assist families with children’s birthday parties when funds may not otherwise be available to make the day special.

Plans to assist the Town Talk volunteers decorate Main St for fall will be headed by Pam Clement, service chairman.

Darlene Lau, social chair, announced a full calendar of socials are planned after two years of Covid restrictions.

The President’s scrapbook was presented to outgoing President, Linda Stephens, a memento of serving for two years leading the chapter through the Covid years. The book was prepared by Scrapbook committee, Pam Clement, Sandy Jones, Darlene Lau and Linda Waller.

The evening concluded with a secret sister gift exchange and desserts were served. Business Meetings resume in September.
