Lincoln County commissioners this week voted to apply for a Community Development Block grant for the Jacktown Fire Department through the Central Oklahoma Economic Development District (COEDD).
Paul Simpson, the Rural Fire Defense Coordinator for COEDD, advised commissioners, “Jacktown is ready. All is I need is their documentation of leverage for the grant.”
He said Jacktown could buy trucks, a chassis if they needed that.
It won’t be known what they will use the grant for exactly until later and how much it will cost.
The commissioners’ action came following a brief discussion as to whether to seek the grant for the county fairgrounds or the Jacktown Fire Department. Simpson informed commissioners for the county fairgrounds a countywide survey would be needed.
“Someone else has to do the survey because COEDD doesn’t do those,” he noted.
He also told them that Jacktown’s most recent survey is still good.
Commissioners also adopted a resolution accepting grant awards of $50,000 from the Oklahoma Conservation Commission’s Unpaved Roads Program for each of the three commissioner districts.
