Meeker Town Board of Trustees this week voted to repeal a couple of ordinances and approved a fun run that will benefit the Meeker Cross Country/Track Team.
They also voted to take no action on expenses incurred at Meeker New Hope Cemetery for future years.
Only three of the five Trustees, Mayor Donna Weber, Aaron Head and Mike Melton were in attendance at Monday night’s meeting.
They eliminated the garage sale ordinance, also passing the emergency clause to put that into effect immediately.
Trustees did the same with the Itinerant Vendor ordinance, also passing the emergency clause on it.
They discussed expenses incurred at the Meeker New Hope Cemetery in future years, then voted to take no action.
Town Administrator Jeff Wilbourn said, “We can still take donations. Ultimately, it’s our responsibility. It will cost about $8,000 a year to mow the cemetery,” Wilbourn estimated.
Mayor Donna Weber noted, “We budgeted $5,000 for it and we’re already at $5,348. Donations help but they won’t cover it all.”
Trustees approved a Fun Run for Dec. 14 at Meeker Lake. It’s called “The Meeker Reindeer Run” and will begin at 9 a.m.
They also accepted a donated vehicle from Shawnee Absentee Tribe for the Meeker Police Department. Wilborrn said it is a 2001 Freightliner FL 80 response vehicle.
He said the police plan to utilize it as a tactical vehicle and when necessary a Command Post.
In other business, Trustees authorized Grant Administrator Leslie Wilbourn to apply for the T-Mobile grant for the Meeker Little League at Meeker Lake.
They also authorized her to apply for the Water SMART grant.
