White Rock student Josie Murray wrote an essay that she read at the Veterans Day event at the school.

Although it isn’t specifically about Veterans Day, we thought it would be good to print it.

What America Means To Me

By: Josie Murray

America means that I can have a real house to live in. America means that I have a right to say what I think the government should or should not do. America means that when I’m old enough to vote I can vote for president instead of being told who my ruler is going to be like in other countries. America means that I can have three square meals a day if I want it. America means that I can find a job just abut any time I need one and make decent money at it. America is a place that fought for its freedom and won! America is a place where we can just be ourselves and not have the government tell us what we have to wear or feel. America means freedom! Freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom to petition the government, and the freedom of religion! America is a place where we can worship our God without getting in trouble for it. That’s why I love America and what America means to me!

Many Veterans Day events were cancelled due to COVID-19, but White Rock School held an observance and the American Legion held a parade in Chandler. Top, the Honor Guard from the Shawnee Police Department fires a salute at White Rock School and, right, the honor guard from Chandler marches down Manvel. Above are White Rick students Ember Lane, Ryleigh Loveland, James Frazer, Cooper Gordon and Breanna Stone.
