Piper Hixson and Bryston Smith have been named April Lions of the Month by the Lion’s Club.
Piper Hixson, the daughter of Shanna Booze and Kent Hixson, maintains a 3.88 grade point average.
She has been on the Principal’s and Superintendent’s honor rolls throughout her high school years.
Her academic excellence has earned her a $4,000 scholarship to the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond.
Piper was on the CHS basketball team for four years. She served as team captain and was named to the All-Region Team.
She served as track manager for four years and also participated in Positive Peers, Postponing Sexual Involvement and Business Professionals of America.
Her community involvement includes helping out with the elementary school Track and Field Day, Little League Basketball Camp and the Positive Peers Soup Da Doop annual fundraiser. She is also active in her church, First Baptist Church of Chandler.
Piper has been employed in the Chandler Athletic Department. Following graduation, she plans to attended UCO with a major in health science working toward a master degree and becoming a nurse.
Bryston Smith is the son of Brian and Brandy Smith. He holds a 4.0 GPA while taking advanced classes in English and Chemistry and concurrent college classes through Oklahoma State University in Stillwater.
His academic excellence has earned him an invitation to the Chandler Academic Banquet for three years. He is a member of both the Oklahoma and National Honor Societies. He was selected to serve as a 2020 Oklahoma Boys State delegate and is a three-time recipient of the Regional STEM Standout Award for excellence in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.
Bryston was chosen to serve on the BancFirst Student Board of Directors and is a member of the CHS Gifted and Talented Program.
He was on the CHS Academic Team serving as team co-captain for two years.
He has been involved in the Boy Scouts of America for 11 years achieving the second-highest rank attainable - Life Scout. He was a senior patrol leader for two years and served as scribe for one year.
Participating in band for six years, he served as low brass captain for two. Bryston earned superior ratings in the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association instrumental solo contests - four times for district and two times for state competition.
As a member of Future Farmers of America, he achieved the Star Greenhand FFA Degree and proficiency awards for Natural Resource Management and Ag Services. He was junior class student council representative and served on the prom committee.
Bryston gave back to the community by helping out at the food pantry, Clearview Cemetery and at the Lincoln County Museum of Pioneer History. He placed flags on veteran’s graves for Memorial Day and donated Christmas presents for families in need.
He has worked at Smith Pump & Supply throughout high school and has been admitted to OSU College of Arts and Sciences Geology Department and Honor College for Fall 2021. He plans to major in geology working toward a career in the groundwater industry and assuming control of his family’s water well servicing business.
